Middleville Area Pioneer Certificate
The Thornapple Heritage Association is looking for descendants of early Middleville Area Pioneer families still living in the area, as well as those who live afar, in order to honor their contribution to the growth of the village and surrounding areas with a certificate. Many families have long ties with the area and are proud of their pioneer settler ancestors. This ongoing project will serve to bring the past into the present and go into an archive as a source of information to the community for years to come. Cost is only $2 per certificate (plus $1 for mailing). Application form with instructions and lineage chart can be obtained from THA, at several local businesses, THA special events and monthly meetings, by mail (see contact THA) or download from this site, click Forms and scroll down.
Middleville Public Museum
One of our main goals is to help establish a public museum in which to save all the treasures of our past, before they are destroyed and lost forever. Settled first in 1834 and incorporated as a Village in 1867, Middleville has a very exciting past as a stagecoach stop, farming community and industrial leader in the Thornapple Valley. The now-defunct railroad, built in 1870, once stopped here every day on it's way to other communities in the area. Our streets were lined with stores, shops and factories. Some of the early industries eventually went on to become large companies. Our village was a center of commerce for the surrounding agricultural area. A public museum would honor and preserve this interesting past.
Much effort is being made by the THA toward achieving this goal for a public museum. As a member of this group, you can help us work toward making a public museum a reality. A place for your children to learn about their past.
